As most of you have noticed, the clocks have jumped an hour ahead in lieu of Daylight Savings Time starting. I used to hate spring forward because I always felt like I was losing an hour of sleep but nowadays, I don't really mind. I think it helps that my iPhone automatically changes so I don't really feel a difference. There's something about manually changing the clock (in my car, on my microwave, my watches, etc.) that causes some sort of discomfort but since I rarely rely on those things for time, that is no longer the case. Either way, this means spring is just around the corner and the days will start feeling longer and longer, something I absolutely love! But with the changing of the season, it means its time for a wardrobe upgrade as well as a wardrobe clean out! Are you ready?
I have been slowly but surely upgrading my wardrobe as we approach the warmer months ahead. I have invested in a few tank tops and other lighter clothing, as well as pieces I plan to wear to Coachella (weekend 2, who's going?). This look was somewhat inspired by Coachella, although I would NEVER dare wear a leather jacket in the desert unless I wanted to melt. I wore a pair of distressed cut off shorts with my Saint Laurent boots, a striped tank and my leather jacket. This is a perfect "Californian" look, I think at least. I also have always wanted to get shots with Beverly Hills palm trees in the back, so this has been one of my favorite shoots thus far!
I recently cleaned out my closet, mainly to make more room for new clothes, and it made me feel really good. I'll admit, I'm somewhat of a hoarder. I don't think it's necessarily because I keep things for the hopes of one day having a use for it, but because a lot of stuff has sentimental value to me. For example, I have tons of t-shirts I have collected through the years and the only reason I don't give them away is because I kind of like keeping them around. I'm a very nostalgic person so I love to hold on to "memories" even if they are just considered junk. So if you're like me, you need to decide if whatever it is is worth holding on to, or if it's just adding to the clutter. This goes for both clothes and other material possessions.
For clothes, a trick I've always wanted to try but have never done, is to switch all your hangers to face the way you don't normally hang clothes (we all have a preference). Once you wear the item, you switch it back to how you would normally hang it. Then, in a year, you look at your closet and see what items on hangers have not switched directions. That means you didn't wear it for an entire year and basically, it's time to donate it to Goodwill. You know what they say, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
I love spring for many reasons actually. Not only does it mark the beginning of my birthday celebrations (April 17th people), but also my mom's birthday, Easter, Coachella of course, and of course just a mentality of starting fresh and "turning over a new leaf." As flowers start bloom, I hope you do as well. This is a time of renewal and getting rid of anything unnecessary from your life! So whether that is literal or figurative baggage, just let go and say sayonara! Start with your closet and see where that takes you.
